Nearly 30 Firaxicorps members teamed up with Business Volunteers Maryland to support four Baltimore nonprofits. See how we’re helping provide books, beds, and sports gear to our community.
With the help of Business Volunteers Maryland, members of the Firaxis team are able to give back to our community - in the past, we've cleaned up and landscaped a park, sorted Christmas gifts for children, and more. On June 22, nearly 30 dedicated Firaxicorps members went out to a Baltimore City warehouse to help out four separate nonprofits: Baltimore Teacher Supply Swap, Bedtime in a Box, Leveling the Playing Field, and Maryland Book Bank.
The Baltimore Teacher Supply Swap provides access to educational materials for teachers and students, and provides an average of $600 annual value for monthly visitors for only a $10 investment. Members of the Firaxicorps team sorted donated supplies ranging from biology books to art supplies to classroom decor.
Bedtime in a Box supports families no matter the socioeconomic status, race, or location to promote learning, comfort, and healthy habits through a "bedtime routine" box stuffed with with books, pajamas, toiletries, and more. After receiving Bedtime in a Box, reading in the home increased from an average 30 minutes per week to 105 minutes per week.
Leveling the Playing Field supports underpriveledged children who might not have a chance to enjoy the mental and physical benefits of youth sports participation. In 2016, this nonprofit impacted over 89,500 children by supplying them with donated sports equipment.
Literacy is for everyone, and the Maryland Book Bank is dedicated to the belief that all children deserve the resources needed to enrich the mind. They distribute 150,000 free books to children, teachers, school, and organizations annually and have over 600 community partner organizations.
It was a sweaty day in the warehouse for our Firaxicorps members, but the gratification of giving back to the community cannot be matched.
