It has been an incredibly exciting few weeks for the team here at Firaxis. In addition to launching our recent Civ VII Test of Time Update across PC & Console, revealing a whole new Content Collection, and now dropping a new 1.4.1 update featuring Hot Seat... we also sent a team from 2K and our studio to Cupertino, California for Apple’s Worldwide Developers Conference (WWDC26). The occasion? Sid Meier’s Civilization VII for Apple Arcade was officially nominated for a prestigious Inclusivity Award at the Apple Design Awards!

We are deeply honored by this recognition, and we wanted to share a quick recap of our amazing time celebrating with the global developer community.

Day 1: Celebrating Authentic Representation

Our week kicked off on Sunday at a special event hosted in Cupertino to honor the Apple Design Award finalists and winners. The evening was a fantastic blur of networking, photo ops, and (of course) delicious food.

As a finalist, we had the incredible opportunity to showcase Civilization VII to fellow developers and share the philosophy behind our nomination. For us, inclusivity means authentic representation. We spoke passionately about how our design, audio, and narrative teams prioritized the rich, diverse histories of the cultures featured in the game:

  • Historical Accuracy: Our on-staff historians worked tirelessly to ensure that the historical milestones, narratives, and contexts we reference are deeply accurate.
  • Visual Representation: From the intricate architecture of sprawling cities to the precise design of unique military units, we committed to honoring the visual heritage of each civilization.
  • Authentic Audio: Our audio team collaborated with incredible global musicians and composers to source unique, era-appropriate instruments. Furthermore, we went to great lengths to ensure our leaders feature authentic voiceover (VO) in their native languages.

Day 2: Looking to the Future at Apple HQ

On Monday, we joined developers representing over 65 countries on-site at the breathtaking Apple Headquarters. Beyond the tech, it was an incredibly emotional day as we got to see Tim Cook take the stage for his fifteenth and final WWDC opening keynote as Apple's CEO. Hearing him reflect on his journey and share his final farewell remarks to the developer community was a truly unforgettable historic moment to witness in person.

Following the keynote, it was an inspiring day focused on the future of technology and gaming. We got a front-row seat to Apple’s latest advancements, diving into:

  • Major, notable improvements to UI and available developer tools.
  • A whole new approach to Siri AI.
  • Expanded Apple Intelligence capabilities available within more Apps.
  • A series of new and expanded Child Safety Protections.
  • A powerful slew of performance enhancements for users.

Day 3: Showcasing Civ VII and Announcing the Test of Time Update for Apple Arcade

We wrapped up our main events on Tuesday by connecting with international press and content creators. We loved showing off Civilization VII running beautifully on the Apple iPad and iPhone devices while discussing what our Apple Design Award nomination means to the studio.

But we didn't just talk about the present, we also teased the future! We officially highlighted that Test of Time, the biggest and most fundamentally game-changing update to Civilization VII to-date, is coming to Apple Arcade later this year.

Test of Time for Apple Arcade is set to introduce three main reworked or new features including Time-Tested civs, a new Victories System, and Triumphs. Test of Time for Apple Arcade will also be released with two new and popular leaders for players to enjoy, including Gilgamesh and Alexander.
